In this article we will discuss about the structure of Tubifex with the help of a diagram.
1. Fresh water, tubicolous and red coloured obligochaetes found at the muddy bottom of ponds and ditches of U.S.A.
2. Body bilaterally symmetrical, triploblastic and metamerically segmented.
3. Distinct head and appendages are absent and all the segments are alike.
4. Clitellum is present in 11th & 12th segments throughout life.
5. Male genital openings are present in 11th segment, female openings in 12th segment and heart in 8th segment.
6. Setae are present in 2 dorsal and 2 ventral bundles.
7. 17th and 19th segments contain paired genital papillae.
8. Hermaphrodite and reproduction usually sexual and is followed by a cocoon formation.
