In this article we will discuss about the classification of plant tissues based on types of cell.

There are two types of tissue — simple and complex. Simple tissues are homogeneous, i.e., they are composed of one type of cells only, which have similar morphological structure, perform same function and originate from the same mother cell. Parenchyma, collenchyma and sclerenchyma are the examples of simple tissues.

Complex tissues are heterogeneous, i.e. they are composed of dissimilar types of cells, which have different morphological structures. Xylem and phloem are the complex tissue through which upward conduction of water and downward translocation of solutes occur.
