Following are different methods of planting lawns:- 1. Dibbling of Roots 2. Seeding 3. Turfing 4. Bricking 5. Planting on Polythene.

Method # 1. Dibbling of Roots:

Though this is little slow method for making lawn yet it is most common and the cheapest method, hence preferred. In this method, grass pieces with roots taken from area free from weeds, are dibbled at a distance of 10-15 cm both ways. After planting water is applied liberally if rainfall is not there.

Method # 2. Seeding:

This method has not become so popular but can be followed for making lawn. Before sowing the seeds soil should be tilled fine followed by light rolling. Ten to 12 kg seed of grass is required for an acre. Seeds should be uniformly and evenly sown on a windless day.

Bulk material like sand or ash should be used for even distribution of seeds. The ground should he lightly rolled again. Watering should be done with a watering can fitted with a spray nozzle. Flood irrigation should be avoided before germination of seeds otherwise seeds get collected at the sloppy places.

Method # 3. Turfing:

In this method, the pieces of uniform thickness of turf along with soil are made from the place where grass is compact and free from weeds. Then these pieces are spread on the ground evenly and beaten with a stick covered with a fine soil. Liberal watering is done. In very short period grass starts growing.

Method # 4. Bricking:

To replace the few unhealthy patches in well maintained lawn, this method is used. In this method, piece of lawn along with soil in the shape of bricks are taken out and are planted and watered immediately.

Method # 5. Planting on Polythene:

In this method, lawn is grown on thick polythene (800 gauge thickness). First polythene is cut into suitable pieces of desired dimension. Mixture of soil (3-4 cm thick) is spread over the polythene sheets and grass is grown over. It can be rolled and taken to place and rolled out where temporary effect is to be created.
