In this article we will discuss about the structure of an excretory organ in human body, with the help of a suitable diagram.

Excretion is defined as the removal of toxic materials and waste products of metabolism from organisms. The metabolic reactions within the body are always creating waste products.

There are two main sets of excretory organs for removing metabolic waste products:

1. The kidneys and

2. The lungs

 

Note:

The sweat glands in the skin also remove small amounts of urea, as a constituent of sweat.

The removal of faeces from the alimentary canal is not regarded as excretion, because the fibre which makes up the faeces is not the product of a chemical reaction in the body. Instead, it is passed all the way through the intestines unaffected by enzymes. However, the pigment which colours the faeces, which comes from the chemical breakdown of red blood cells, can be regarded as excretory.
